HISTORY: AN ACCOUNT, MOSTLY FALSE
A quote from Ambrose Bierce:
HISTORY: n. An account, mostly false, of events mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers, mostly knaves.
Despite this, which is mostly true I think, these photos of American soldiers between tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan provide a rather indisputable parcel to the historical record. Emotionally, subjectively, yes. Made in 2004/2005 by Suzanne Opton.

ELAINE KAUFMAN. ANOTHER END TO AN ERA.
A few days ago New York lost an icon. Elaine Kaufman, who sat as a fixture at her restaurant Elaine's for the past 4 and a half decades, herself an institution. This was, in my family, our home away from home and Elaine a close family friend since my dad started going there when he lived across the street in the early 70's. I honestly don't know what we'll do or where we'll go now.

LEAVING GREENSLEEVES
On December 16 at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, a video I made will be shown along with 10 videos by 10 other artists, creating a visual reinterpretation of the 1974 Leonard Cohen album, New Skin for the Old Ceremony. I am including a still image from my video here, which stars New York City Ballet principal dancer Ashley Bouder.
